2017: New Year, New Adventures

January 11, 2017

Whew! I can’t quite believe that 2016 is over and 2017 has started. The year past was a heck of a ride, filled with highs and lows, but I’ll be the first one to say that I’m glad it’s over. Because now we can move on to 2017, chock full with its new adventures, journeys, and destinations.

The Future of Live Wanderfully

So, what will I be doing?

I could resolve to travel more – that’s what everybody does – but the resolution route rarely works. I’m not resolving; I’m planning instead.

Digital nomads often chide us for not taking the plunge and put aside our lives for our passions, but they often don’t understand the full extent of our commitment to various other things. It’s not that either lifestyle is distinctly better, it’s that our priorities lie in different things. Don’t get me wrong, I do love travel, but ultimately, I also need to think ahead to higher education. And so often, people like us are made to feel bad about the fact that we don’t just want travel, we want other things too.

But that stops now. We love travel but we also want more, and gosh darn it, we are proud that this is the way we are. And this is why I’m taking Live Wanderfully in a new direction, one that is more consistent with my lifestyle. Live Wanderfully was always about travelling better, but now it’s going to be all about better part-time travel. This is for all of us who want to go to graduate school, who have no intention of pulling up all our roots, who still have a 9 to 5 job and love it (okay, this isn’t a strict requirement). This is for all of us who don’t want to become English teachers in Korea, who live for planning and predictability, but still want to see the world. Our priorities may be different, but we know what we want and we are proud that we do.

My 2017 Adventures

I know what I want. I didn’t resolve to travel more in 2017 because I didn’t want that. There’s enough adventure in my life already, and though I intend to continue, it isn’t realistic to do any more.

I resolved to:

  1. Run a 10K by the end of the year (WHAT DID I GET MYSELF INTO?!?!)
  2. Only eat meat 2 days of the week
  3. Forgive and let go of old hurts

Tame, I know. None of these are travel related but ultimately, they will make me better off than any vague ‘travel more’ resolution ever will. As for travel planning…

  1. Some sort of road trip to Ontario’s small towns
  2. A summer adventure in Quebec

And that’s it. It’s not feasible to fit more in this year, and I’m happy with that as well.

So what will you guys do in 2017? Not just in travel, but in life. I want to hear your resolutions, your goals, and your plans! Leave a comment down below!
